Some say that losing weight is less important than being fit, but usually the two go hand in hand. Fit men are rarely overweight and overweight men are rarely fit, nor can they get fit without losing weight. We also know that the biology of men and women is slightly different. This means that it is important to do the right thing in order to get fit and lose weight. Let’s take a look at recent research that can help you get fit and lose weight as a man.
Finding Good Tips
You know your body better than anybody else and it is likely that you know what you can and can’t do and what you do and do not enjoy. However, that doesn’t mean you can’s also listen to the experts and get some useful hints and tips. According to The Huffington Post.
“With so much conflicting information floating around, it’s hard to know what advice to follow. When should you increase the weights in your workout routine? Should you eat carbs or protein after hitting the gym? And will doing hundreds of crunches actually give you a flat belly for swimsuit season?”
This is why you need to look for advice that you know you can trust and follow. Make sure you read reviews and that you find out the credentials of the person who wrote it. Let’s take a look at two fitness routines that are said to work, and these are backed by scientific evidence.
Masturbating Can Help You Lose Weight
There is a well-known urban myth that men think about sex every seven seconds. Although this is not true, it certainly is true that they think about sex just over once an hour, even when asleep. So why not use this to get fit and lose weight as well? It sounds too good to be true, and nobody would suggest you masturbate at inappropriate times, but it is certainly enough to finally make you understand that it’s ok to do it. You won’t grow hairy palms or go blind, in other words. In an interview with Men’s Fitness, Dr. Ramani Durvasula explained:
“I took one thing I loved, food, and replaced it with another, orgasm. When I got tired of the endless salads and fruits and vegetables, I decided, why not stick in something that is pleasurable and healthy? That was a short list-reading, writing, orgasm. So when I had to replace a pleasurable food, I used masturbation.”
It sounds crazy, but it makes sense. It is an activity that burns calories, for starters, but the key is to use it as a reward. Don’t eat that cookie, but do something else that gives you pleasure. Before long, you won’t even look at the cookie anymore.
Fitness or Weight Loss?
So what really is more important? Being fit or losing weight? We have discussed that the two go hand in hand, but there are now some doctors and scientists that suggest that this is actually not true. Looking at it from a statistical perspective, it is true that muscle weighs more than fat. Hence, it stands to reason that someone like a bodybuilder would weigh as much, if not more, as someone that is too fat. However, they are not classed as overweight and they are certainly fit. It seems, indeed, that mortality is reduced by increasing fitness and not as much by lowering weight. To Your Health’s Dr. Petersen conducted an 11 year long study, which concluded that
“Gaining, losing or maintain weight did not impact the risk of cardiovascular disease or all-cause mortality. Men who lost weight did not reduce their risk of death. But men who improved or maintained their fitness over the 11+ years did reduce their risk of death.”
